Dateline--May 26, 2005
We’ve completed our move into the new house. The move went extremely well due to my insistence on hiring professional movers. Thursday morning they arrived and made quick work of loading and unloading the truck. They had us completely moved in by Thursday afternoon. The movers did a great job, inflicting only minimal damage on the pristine new walls and thanks to the temporary protective plastic runners that the builder had installed the carpeting was not dirtied or damaged in the process.

Because we sold our house early and moved into an apartment we had half of our belongings stored in a POD. The POD arrived at the new house shortly before the movers had finished unloading the truck. They offered to unload the POD for us for an extra $60. I jumped all over their offer and boy was it worth it. They easily earned their $60 when they moved our second refrigerator into the basement down a staircase with three turns and a relatively narrow landing. I would never have been able to get the refrigerator down the stairs, even with help.

All day Thursday the house was hopping. The new refrigerator and the blinds were installed in the morning. In the afternoon we had the satellite dish and receivers installed and the phone installed. It was hectic but we got it all done in one day.

Late in the afternoon our friends and family began showing up. Theresa was doing her best to maintain her composure and control the kids while showing everyone the house. In the meantime I had to run in to work for awhile for a class. Between the class and Megan’s tee-ball meeting that night I had to run to Home Depot to get water hoses and sprinklers for the sod. By the time I made it home that night I was dead and so were Theresa and the kids.

A week has passed now and we are really getting settled into the new house. We’ve met all the neighbors and their kids, we’ve exchanged phone numbers and we’ve even had one of the kids over to play with Megan and Claire. We’re still working through a few minor problems but that is all they are, "Minor". We’re still unpacking and organizing but we are really starting to make this house a home. Thanks to everyone that has helped and supported through this process.

This will be my last installment in the "Building a House" series. I will most likely transition into a series of rants related to living in a newly constructed home. As we are quickly learning new homes have problems, too.
